Some people thought our young family would be complete with the birth of our second daughter in 2006; however, we knew we wanted to grow our family further. We had always wanted to adopt, even before we were married. We looked at a number of programs both domestic and international, but soon discovered our hearts, and our children, were in Ethiopia. We and our then-oldest daughter traveled to bring home our new son and daughter in March 2008, enjoying two weeks in Ethiopia. We discovered we had another daughter waiting there as well, who joined our family in August 2009.
Our placement agency was based out of Washington, so it was very helpful having a local social worker that we trusted. Joan Hadersbeck was a valuable asset to our journey! She made it a point to make our home study process cpmfprtable and the paperwork efficient and painless by trying to match documents in form and type to those required by our dossier as much as possible. She was flexible with meeting dates and times and sensitive to our many (!) questions. When our adoption plans were a bit out of the ordinary, she took the time to listen and learn from us and more about the process as well.
We would (and have!) recommended Adoption Advocates to other adoptive families. The staff there is caring, supportive and available to adoptive families throughout the journey of bringing children home.
